AI tools have been rapidly getting more and more capable.
â
As an Etsy seller, there are ways to use these powerful tools to make your seller life easier and more efficient.
â
In this article, Iâll show you a few ways you can use AI tools to gain useful insights for your Etsy shop and help you run your shop more efficiently.
â
Letâs get started.
â
â
AI tools, such as large language models, are designed to understand and respond to human input. Itâs capable of surprisingly human-like conversations. Itâs also capable of answering complex questions and requests. Over the past year, AI tools like GPT 4o and Claude 3.5 have become very versatile and powerful.
â
For Etsy sellers, these tools can be help you with:
â
Iâll go through 3 incredibly valuable use cases with you today. In the examples, Iâll be using Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which is one of the most capable tools available and itâs free to use with message limitations that reset every few hours. However, there are alternatives like GPT-4o and Gemini that you might consider trying out as well.
â
â
â
Unlike previous models, you can now upload extra data and information to these AI tools to maximise the insights you can generate. Here are the sources of extra data we will use:
â
â
By combining these data sources with AI analysis, you can uncover deeper insights and make more informed decisions for your Etsy shop.
â
â
AI tools can process a large amount of data and generate useful insights to benefit your decision making for your Etsy business. In this example, letâs combine the top listing data file from Alura to get insights about your top competitors, potential gaps in the market and more.
â
â
â
Analyse the attached Etsy product dataset for the keyword [the keyword you used in the research tool]. Write the following insights using the dataset:
* Top 5 competitors
*Â 3 potential unique selling propositions (USPs) not currently covered by top products
*Â Price point analysis, including popular ranges and potential gaps
* Popular materials, styles, and themes
Please format your response with clear headings and bullet points for easy readability. Conclude with 3-5 actionable recommendations based on the analysis.
â
With this one prompt with the dataset from Alura, you can get these insights:
â
Insight 1
The first insight Claude can provide is the insights about the top 5 competitors. This helps you get a clear picture of the niche and who you should pay the most attention to:
â
Insight 2
Based on the listing titles, it can also spot potential unique selling propositions (USPs) that aren't currently covered by top products. This can speed up the process of finding gaps in the market that you could fill with your products, but of course, youâd still need to verify the USPs directly on Etsy:
â
Insight 3
Price point analysis, and which price range is less competitive and how you can position your product in that price range:
â
Insight 4
Identify popular materials, styles and themes from the top 100 products. This information helps you come up with ideas when creating new products:
â
Insight 5
And from all of the data you provided, Claude gives a few pretty solid recommendations at the end. You can then use these insights to potentially test out your product offering and pricing and see whether it generates higher conversion rate and profitability.
â
â
This use case focuses on improving your Etsy SEO strategy and helping you write listing titles that use targeted long-tail keywords.
â
â
â
I'm selling [products] on Etsy. My main keyword is [keyword]. I've uploaded an Excel file with related keywords, their competition level, estimated traffic, and sales. Please analyse this data and:
* Identify and separate any keywords that are too broad or irrelevant.
* Suggest 10 highly relevant long-tail keywords that balance low competition with good traffic potential.
* Suggest 10 additional long-tail keywords that are not in the excel file, but are highly relevant to my products.
â
â
After that, you should have a list of broad and irrelevant keywords that you should ignore, and a list of 20 long-tail keywords that are useful for your product listings.
â
In this example, Claude analyses the data and extracted the top 10 relevant keywords from the file uploaded (I find it impressive that it also takes competition level and traffic into account), and also give a list of keywords that you may not have thought of before like âaromatherapy dropper bottle tagâ:
â
â
To get even more useful information from Claude, you can upload a product photo that uses the same keyword, and type in this prompt:
â
I've uploaded a photo of my [product]. Using the long-tail keywords you suggested earlier, please generate 5 highly relevant listing titles that:
* Accurately describe the product in the photo
* Uses highly relevant long-tail keywords
* Are within Etsy's 140-character limit for titles
â
This will give you 5 variations of listing titles that make use of the keywords discovered in the previous prompt. The listing titles written by Claude are all pretty usable with long-tail keywords. Some of them may not be perfect, but could serve as a great starting point. For example, Claude interpreted the text âstress freeâ in the label design as part of the product, which led it to include keywords like âStress Free Essential Oil Stickerâ, which is a phrase that shoppers likely wouldn't search for:
â
â
â
Another strong point of AI tools is writing concisely and professionally, which we can use it to generate listing descriptions.
â
One key thing to keep in mind is that the more information you give it (about the product features, selling points, tone of your brand, etc), the better the result would be.
â
I'm selling [products] on Etsy. Key features include [list 3-5 features]. It's made of [materials] and unique because [1-2 unique selling points]. My brand voice is [describe tone: e.g., friendly, professional, quirky]. Please generate 3 SEO-friendly product descriptions for my [specific product]. Each description should be about 150 words each and incorporate long-tail keywords related to 'hand-poured soy candle'. Write in simple sentences, short paragraphs and scannable bullet points.
â
In this example, I created 3 descriptions for a hand-poured soy candle Etsy brand. Claude generated 3 pretty high-quality descriptions that focus on benefits for customers and make use of long-tail keywords. Use these generated descriptions as a starting point to save you time in writing from scratch. If the details are wrong or the tone is not what you're after, then just ask Claude to fix it in follow-up prompts.
â
â
â
The prompts and use cases presented here are just the tip of the iceberg. Feel free to mix and match these ideas or come up with your own.
â
As powerful as these AI tools are, itâs important to always double check the generated content to make sure they are accurate and relevant. Ultimately the goal of using these tools is to make your Etsy seller life easier and more efficient, but not to replace your unique human touch and expertise.
