Supercharge Your Etsy Shop With ChatGPT
How To Craft The Perfect Prompts For ChatGPT

Imagine this: You're the boss and you've just hired a smart personal assistant - ChatGPT. ChatGPT is a quick learner, but it can’t read your mind. You need to tell it exactly what you need, otherwise it might not get it right. The more specific and detailed you can be with your instructions, the better ChatGPT can deliver what you need.

For instance, if you tell ChatGPT, "Give me 5 listing titles for a soy candle”. It will be able to write the listing titles, but the results could be a bit generic. That’s because it doesn’t know the specifics of your product, your brand, or your target customer.

Instead, if you say, "Give me 5 listing titles for my hand-poured, lavender-scented soy candle. My target customers love eco-friendly home decor with a rustic vibe. Include words like 'natural', 'hand-poured', and 'aromatic' in the listing titles”. ChatGPT will be able to give you a better, more tailored result.

Just like training a new assistant, if you don’t give ChatGPT enough instructions, it may not know what you want and what to do.

In this chapter, we'll look at some ways to add extra information and instructions to your prompts so that you can get the best results. Refer back to this chapter regularly throughout this course.

How To Craft & Refine Your Perfect Prompts

There's no one-size-fits-all prompt for ChatGPT. If you want to get the best results, you’ll need to write a unique prompt which include relevant information and instructions.

Here are what you can include in your prompt for the best results:

Extra Useful Instructions

  • Focus on the product benefits
  • Break it into short paragraphs
  • Include the following keywords in your response: (keywords)
  • Keep the response under xx words/characters

Mastering Follow-Up Prompts

Sometimes ChatGPT might not get it right on the first try. Maybe the information was incomplete, or the tone didn't quite hit the mark. This is when you can use follow-up prompts to get a better response from ChatGPT.

Here are some useful follow-up prompts:

  • “Generate more ideas”
  • "My product doesn’t have (feature), instead it has (feature). Can you modify your response?"
  • "Can you rewrite it in a more friendly and informal tone?"
  • "Can you expand point number X with these extra information: (Extra information)"
  • "Point X sounds interesting. Can you give me 10 more ideas similar to that?"
  • “Can you expand point X by 2 more paragraphs”
  • “Can you shorten point X to only 3 sentences”

Now you’re ready to use ChatGPT to its full potential. In the following chapters, you’ll learn different ways you can leverage it to help you manage and grow your Etsy shop, and refer back to this chapter when you need to refine your prompts for better results.
